We are still worshiping tomorrow at 9:30 AM, followed by Sunday School 11:10-Noon. Please read below for our encouragement to prayer and for steps we are taking so you can decide if you should come to the Worship Service. We are following the CDC and state government health guidelines.
Dear NBC Church Family,
As you’re aware, coronavirus has been spreading around the world and is now impacting New England, with the first Vermont case being confirmed in Bennington County this week. We are monitoring these developments closely and praying for those who are infected, as well as those who are working hard to help all those impacted. We’re glad that in a time when many are fearful, God sits on his throne and is in full control of all these events. We want to exercise wisdom and to ensure as much as possible the safety of all members of our NBC community.
According to the CDC, “Older adults and people who have severe underlying chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.” We encourage such folks to exercise extra caution.
At this time, we are not canceling our services or ministry gatherings. If individuals feel they must avoid large gatherings, we encourage you to listen to our Sunday sermons on the NBC website and to stay in touch with your Christian brothers and sisters on the phone, over email, or in other ways. Please do stay home if you feel sick. As much as possible, Pastor Tim will be getting the sermons on the website by Sunday afternoon. We have requested extra cleaning of all doorknobs, tables, and counters with the cleaning solution that the CDC recommends.
We encourage you to forgo shaking hands or hugging at church for the time being. We are still providing coffee and cocoa if you would like to partake, and for now the snacks offered in-between 9:30 AM Worship and Sunday School will be prepackaged. Parents, please help by limiting how many your children take.
Let’s pray for those at Equinox Terrace as they have canceled our ministry there, along with other outside groups, for the time being. Additionally, Pastor Tim has been in contact with shut-ins and for the moment they do not need help grocery shopping but opportunities may come up for us to show the love of Christ to them in this or other ways.
We will continue to monitor events and be in touch with you if we feel extra measures are needed to ensure the safety of our brothers and sisters at NBC. If you’d like to learn more, here are some helpful resources:
Let’s all take this unique time in our world, nation, and community to pray for our government leaders but also to pray for our neighbors and so many in our world who don’t have the hope of Christ. Let’s also pray for brothers and sisters in Christ who are in situations in which they can’t meet for worship at the moment like certain parts of Europe, and for wisdom for churches in the U.S. being affected who cannot meet in places like certain schools for now.
In the words of Corrie ten Boom, one thing to remember is, “Worry doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its strength.” We must put our trust in the One “who holds all things together.” (Col. 1:17)
Safe in the hands of the Lord of the nations,
The NBC Elders
